Email adverts come in two forms. Adverts inserted into other emails and solo adverts.
Solo adverts are emails sent out directly to potential customers and only contain your advert, nothing else. You have to be careful to use a reputable company to send them out for you, because the emails must only be sent to people who have agreed to receive them. If they are sent to anyone who has not said that they will accept advertising emails, they are spam, and spam is illegal. And in most countries you risk a ridiculously high fine (unless you are rich in the same way that Bill Gates is rich, expect to loose everything you own). In some territories you could even go to jail.
But provided you have contracted a reputable company to send out the emails, you can get a good response from this kind of advertising.
The second kind of email advertising is having your advert inserted into email newsletters (like, for example, news emails or joke emails). It works out a lot more expensive per email than the above method, but it gets better results, because your advert is in newsletters that people subscribed to because they want to read them (EG they get an email on business tips, or jokes because they want to read the business tips or jokes). Your advert is between articles, so they see it as they read the newsletter.
Personally I consider this to be the best kind of advertising you can get.
